Despite the high inflation and the wave of massive layoffs that is devastating the different economic sectors, it seems that the technology sector is resilient, so much so that its projection for the summer months is quite positive. The latest edition of ‘Employment Projection Study’ of manpowergroup points out that the IT sector will improve its level of recruitment, up to ten pointsduring the third quarter of the year in Spain.
Gary MullanCEO of Prosperity Digital, assures that inflation will return to pre-pandemic levels this year, which suggests that SMEs may experience notable growth. However, according to the latest study presented by Scaleup Spain Network, the salaries will not grow at the same rate. Forecasts estimate that increases will be below 3% in all categories, increasing programming positions by more than 6% during 2023.
Prosperity Digital points out that the average salary in the IT sector in Spain is 44,000 euros, including all levels of experience and professional categories. This includes positions such as director of technology and marketing, whose average annual salary can be close to €130,000 or that of head of ecommerce, head of SEO or creative director, which reaches 120,000 euros per year.
In this sector, both salary and search for professional advancement and the telecommuting continue to be the keys that drive users to change jobs, according to the Salary Guide 2023.
Ahead of the IT sector, only health and pharmacy (with 33%), which will improve by 23 points compared to the second quarter, and energy (with 31%), which will experience a quarter-on-quarter increase of eleven points, will grow more. These are the most outstanding employment projections.
If global data is analyzed, the IT sector leads global hiring intentions with a percentage of 39%, followed by energy and supplies (34%) and the financial and real estate sector (31%).
IT sector trends
Spain appears as the only European country with a higher rate of hiring than firing in the technology sectoran even higher figure in the case of startups, which present an annual growth of 50% in 2022.
The reason why employment will continue to grow in the IT sector is because of the lack of qualified personnel and to increase in the levels of digitization of companies. The net projection for Spain is 27%. Up to 44% of companies forecast an increase in their human resources, while 37% expect to maintain their current numbers. (Phentermine)
Myriam BlazquezCEO of experies, points out that companies in the IT sector remain in the top positions in hiring forecasts and that this has a direct impact on the fact that the needs for tech talent are not met. Hence, it is necessary, he points out, to improve regulated training, the upskilling and the reskilling.
In addition, Prosperity Digital points out that the demand for mid-level and higher-level profiles will continue to grow, although there will be a limit on access to wages above the market. The large wave of layoffs that is still expected will encourage SMEs to include qualified senior profiles in their workforce at more competitive prices.
Some companies are also expected to opt for working hours 4 days a week in which remote work is prioritized to attract talent to the digital sector. In this way, during this year the tendency for companies to take power is once again consolidating, since years ago the IT sector has been dominated by candidates. It is also anticipated growth based on earnings, rather than creditin such a way that companies will evaluate the contracting processes with more caution.
