Lenovo has announced the ThinkCentre M60Q Chromebox, a compact computer that, as its name implies, uses ChromeOS as its operating system. At the hardware level it supports Intel Alder Lake processors, up to 32GB of RAM and storage via eMMC or SSD.
The Lenovo ThinkCentre M60Q Chromebox is a device that was introduced a long time ago, but its hardware specifications were not known until recently. The operating system was already intuited.
Unlike Chromebooks, the most common form of equipment for ChromeOS and which consists of laptops of different ranges and different architectures (there are also or at least were with ARM), the ThinkCentre M60Q Chromebox is a compact desktop computer. To start with, it is an entry-level computer with a Intel Celeron 7305 as processor, 4GB of DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz and 64GB for data storage in eMMC 5.1 format at the price of 299 euros, but it can be modified to become a mid-range device capable of performing certain heavy tasks.
The buyer can alternatively select an Intel Core i3-1215U or a Core i5-1235U. The Celeron and Core i3 use UHD integrated graphics, while the Core i5 implements an Iris Xe accelerator. The RAM can be expanded up to 32GB of DRR4 at 3,200MHz and for data storage the options are eMMC 5.1, PCIe 4.0 through an M.2 slot and PCIe 4 in the same form factor.
In terms of connections, the Lenovo ThinkCentre M60Q Chromebox has one HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, one RJ45 connector for Gigabit Ethernet via a Realtek RTL8111K-CG, a 3.5mm jack for audio, plus Intel AX211 Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 5.1. The dimensions are 182 x 178 x 34 millimeters and the weight is 1.07 kilograms.
Other features are a Flex IO area that can be configured to provide a second DisplayPort or HDMI port and, according to Lenovo, the computer can support up to four 4K displays using the USB Type-C port, the two integrated display outputs and the Flex IO port. There is also the Google H1 security chip and a power supply that can be 65 or 90 watts.
