The new PlayStation Plus is official, launching in June 2022 from €8.99/month

It’s official ! Sony has just officially presented its new PlayStation Plus, the product of the merger between the current PS Plus and Playstation Now, the manufacturer’s cloud gaming service. We take stock of the details disclosed by the Japanese firm.

The presentation of Playstation Spartacus, Sony’s competitor to Xbox Game Pass, was expected in the coming days. The rumors were right, since the Japanese manufacturer has just formalized its existence on the Playstation Blog. As previous statements suggested, Sony will indeed modify the formula of its multiplayer subscription.

Sony introduces the all-new PlayStation Plus

Indeed, this new PS Plus formula is the result of the merger between the current PS Plus and PS Now, the manufacturer’s cloud gaming service. From June 2022, the date of entry into activity of this PS Plus 2.0, players will be able to opt for three different subscriptions:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential : With this offer, you will access the advantages you already have with the current PS Plus, namely two free games per month, exclusive discounts, cloud storage and access to online multiplayer.
  • PlayStation Plus Extra : we find here all the advantages of the 1st formula, with the difference that you will be able to enjoy 400 PS4 and PS5 games from the PlayStation Studios catalog and third-party partner studios
  • PlayStation Plus Premium : via this most expensive offer, you will have access to all the advantages of the two previous offers. It will be necessary to add to that 340 additional games among PS3 titles streaming via the cloud as well as great classics PlayStation, PS2 and PSP. Players will also be able to test in preview and for a limited time new games to come.

Now let’s come to the price of these different offers:

  • €8.99 per month, €24.99 per quarter and €59.99 per year for PlayStation Plus Essential
  • €13.99 per month, €39.99 per quarter and €99.99 per year for PlayStation Plus Extra
  • €16.99 per month, €49.99 per quarter and €119.99 per year for PlayStation Plus Premium

Sony also specifies that AAA games will be available at launch, such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal. Of course, the library of accessible titles will be regularly expanded according to the statements of the manufacturer. “With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we want to deliver a compelling subscription gaming service, featuring hand-picked content created by our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The enhanced PlayStation Plus will allow our fans to experience more content than ever before and strengthen the bonds of the PlayStation community through shared experiences.” summarizes Sony.
