The next iPad Pro could have wireless charging

Trusted sources anticipated, last year, that Apple was working on a major change in the construction of the new iPad Pro, since this would go on to have a glass back. This movement would leave us with the same transition that occurred between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, since the first used an all-aluminum chassis, while the second combined aluminum and glass.

Aluminum and glass are considered premium materials that give a unique finish to the devices in which they are used, not only aesthetically and visually, but also to the touch. Apple had been using aluminum in the iPad Pro, a material that is also considered premium, but that has some limitations compared to glass, the most important being that does not support wireless charging.

That is where the key to all this is. Apple would be considering going from an aluminum finish to a glass one on its next iPad Pro because it wants to incorporate, supposedly, that wireless charging function. However, according to new information leaked by 9to5Mac, Apple would have chosen to discard that glass finish because, in theory, it raised doubts due to its supposed fragility.

If that’s true, then how could Apple integrate a wireless charging system? It’s a good question, and the answer is that I could get it increasing the size of the apple logo, and manufacturing it in glass. This design would be fully adapted to the particularities of the iPad Pro, would offer good performance (faster charging speeds) and would be totally safe.

It is important to keep in mind that we are talking about a prototype, and we already know that Apple has worked with multiple prototypes that in the end have not reached the market. However, in this case it is a design that effectively covers a real need for Apple, and that fits with the information that had appeared previously, so has a lot of chances to materialize. If all goes according to plan, the new iPad Pro will hit the market later this year.
