The next Pixel 7a may well be better than the Pixel 7 in photos, a first

Google is unsurprisingly working on a new Pixel 7a which should arrive next year, and although the official launch will not take place for several months, we already know more about its technical characteristics.

Pixel 7 pro

For several months now, our colleagues at 9to5Google have been monitoring Google’s source code for new Pixel devices. After “Panther” and “Cheetah”, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, we know that the American giant is also working on other devices. For example, we will soon find “Tangor”, the Pixel Tablet, but also “Felix”, the famous Pixel Fold which has been postponed many times.

However, another device has so far proved very mysterious, the one that answers to the code name “Lynx”. It was previously thought to be a Pixel 7 Ultra, but 9to5Google seems to think it’s actually a Pixel 7a. The latter could well be very different from previous models, since it would benefit from a fairly high-end technical sheet.

The Pixel 7a promises to be a photo revolution

While Google had in the past stuck to a single camera on its A-series Pixels, before adopting dual cameras since the Pixel 4a 5G, the upcoming Pixel 7a could come with three cameras. The latter even promise to offer an even more interesting configuration than on the Pixel 7.

Indeed, the developer Kuba Wojciechowski had already spotted that the smartphone was going this time inherit the main camera from the Pixel 7, a 50 MP Samsung GN1. We will also find a second very large 64 MP IMX787 telephoto sensor, since it measures 1.3 inches. Finally, the ultra wide-angle will be provided by a 13 MP IMX712 sensor, and we will find the same sensor for selfies. With such a photo configuration, the Pixel 7a could well for the first time to be more versatile than the high-end Pixel 7.

Moreover, as was the case this year, the Pixel 7a should also inherit Google’s new Tensor G2 chip. Although it is not as powerful as Qualcomm’s processors, it would allow the Pixel 7a to be among the most powerful smartphones in its segment. We also know that Google could use ceramic for its smartphone, and it should finally be compatible with wireless charging.

With so many major changes, we imagine that Google will have to significantly increase the price of its smartphone. The latter could for the first time cross the bar of 500 euros, or even 600 euros.
