The next Tomb Raider will squeeze the potential of PS5 with Unreal Engine 5

And it is that with each new hardware that is released comes extra challenges that have to do with graphics engines, and the Unreal Engine seems the best placed candidate.

All the graphic power of the next-gen

If you remember, it was in May 2020 that the world was shown all the graphic power that awaited us with the fifth version of the extraordinary Unreal Engine. The general aspect of the video (which you have right above) reminded many of any phase that we have seen in recent Tomb Raider, with incredibly detailed settings, dark interiors with the appearance of ancient temples and even a protagonist who, with the right touches, could come to embody the role of Lara Croft herself.

Now, nearly two years later, Unreal has held a small digital event in which they have announced, among other things, that the next tomb Raider they are going to rely on that new graphics engine that guarantees us that the hardware of the new consoles is going to be squeezed for the benefit of a visual spectacle unparalleled in history. For this reason, the general manager of Crystal Dynamics, Dallas Dickinson, took the opportunity to announce that the study has already begun to develop a new game based on Unreal Engine 5.

Dickinson stated during State of Unreal that “Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the Unreal Engine 5 release. This new engine translates to next-level storytelling in gaming experiences. […] Our goal is to push the boundaries of realism and deliver the highest quality action-adventure cinematic experience possible that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the franchise. tomb Raider”.

What awaits us in Tomb Raider?

After the enormous success of the last trilogy that we had on consoles and computers over the last decade, Core Design is debating each other continue that timeline or take new paths. That is why the game director also had words to encourage fans in this regard, remembering that they are looking for a way to unite the events that occurred in those titles with everything new that they want to tell, and that they have that surviving Lara as Main character.
