The Nintendo Switch has sold 6.1 million copies in France, it is close to the Wii record

Nintendo has sold 6.1 million copies of its Switch in France. It’s almost as much as the Wii, which peaks today at 6.3 million sales. The Japanese manufacturer hopes to be able to beat this record in 2022. To do so, it will have to face the shortage of components that has threatened its production for several months.

Switch OLED vs. Switch

5 years after its release, we still can’t stop the Switch. While the small portable reaches almost 93 million sales worldwide, France remains a very flourishing market for Nintendo. Indeed, the manufacturer has passed 6.1 million units in France. Better still, despite the difficulties, 2021 has been a very successful year for the Japanese firm. “2021 was the second best year for the Switch in France, after the record recorded in 2020”, underlines Philippe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France.

The Switch has been breaking the records of previous Nintendo consoles for some time now. In Nintendo, it is now attacking a behemoth: the Wii. To date, the sales figures of the phenomenon of the time amount to 6.3 million. Suffice to say that it will not take long for the student to surpass the master. Nintendo is also very optimistic about it. The company hopes exceed 7 million sales by the end of the year. Nevertheless, the shortage of components could well curb its ambitions.

The Nintendo Switch will soon exceed the sales of the Wii in France

Nintendo seems very confident given the situation it has been going through for a few months. Barely released, the Switch OLED found itself out of stock and the end-of-year celebrations were synonymous with headaches for many players. 2022 isn’t looking much happier. The Japanese manufacturer has already confirmed that stocks will be lower than usual this year.

Nevertheless, the Switch can count on its catalog that is increasingly popular with fans. Yes FIFA dominates the rankings sales of all editions combined, 9 of the 10 best-selling titles on the console come from the Japanese team. Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains a real standard two years after its release, while Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Pokémon Sparkling Pearl have already exceeded the 700,000 sales.
