The Nvidia Shield TV receives the new firmware 9.0.1 that solves the problems of Android 11

After a buggy update, it seems that the Nvidia ShieldTV will finally receive a new firmware to fix the multitude of problems caused by the arrival of Android 11. Although we officially continue in the Android TV version (and not Google TV), as you can see, Nvidia has already started with version 9.0 to update the new user interface, similar to that of Google TV. It is based on a system based on content recommendations on demand and with all the sections in view, thus avoiding the user having to enter various sections to access apps or other services.

It should be remembered that the arrival of Android 11 on the Nvidia Shield TV (in its Experience 9.0 update), brought with it numerous new features, such as the aforementioned compatibility with the new GeForce NOW RTX 3080 service, Apple TV+ system enhancements (with 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support) and for Google Play Movies (by also adding Dolby Vision support), as well as native IMDT TV integration in some countries.

Apart from this, Android 11 also stands out for the new gboard keyboardnew features such as adjust audio resolutionnews regarding energy saving and the arrival of improvements for the platform of Google Stadia, as well as solutions for Xbox, PlayStation and Shield game controllers. Also improved aptX support and various related improvements with the system Bluetooth.

However, the Shield Experience 9.0 and Android 11 brought more problems than they fixed: the deinterlace (vital for live content), support for apps like hyper spinsome applications were not responding, Plex Server could not mount and file explorers and Kodi stopped reading internal folders on the Shield TV. A disaster, until today.

New firmware 9.0.1 for the Nvidia Shield TV: goodbye problems

The surprise has jumped today, February 15, 2022, when a gift from Nvidia arrived in the form of firmware: version 9.0.1 arrives, shelving most of the problems reported by users. As you can see above, among all its novelties, the following points should be highlighted:

  • The problem with the deinterlacer has been completely fixed.
  • Fixed issues that prevented apps from reading internal system folders.
  • Fixed a multitude of app incompatibilities that prevented them from being opened.
  • Fixed issue with Plex Media Server, Kodi and others.

Many of these points come from the famous Hotfixes, a kind of beta firmware for the Shield TV, that the user had to request and that already solved some of these problems. But that update was never implemented in an official version, until today. It should be remembered that Nvidia has not yet released the complete changelog, as soon as it is public we will update this news with the other -minor- changes that the company has solved.
