On April 6, 2022, Google updated its Developer Program Policies. In this long document, the Mountain View company details the new measures that developers will now have to take to ensure that their application is suitable for use by a child, ” otherwise [leur] application can be deleted or suspended”says the latter.

Concretely, developers will have to comply with the legislation of each country in terms of content appropriate for young audiences. Google adds that the application in question complies with the regulations of one region but not necessarily of another, so it may still be available in the first region. Developers have until May 11 to comply with these new regulations. Some of them will be entitled to an additional period of 30 days.

Google wants to better protect children on the Play Store

Google then sets out to detail the various areas in which developers will have to ensure that their application is kept compliant with a younger audience, such as incitement to hatred, false allegations or even advertising programs. For some applications, it is therefore a real headache to comply with the legislation in force in the different countries, especially since this new regulation seems to happen at the last minute.

This new regulation is in line with Google’s desire to make the Play Store a safe and qualitative place for users. Recently, the web giant imposed on developers to target recent versions of Android in priority, in order to prevent the installation of obsolete applications. In addition, the platform also recently displays the version of Android required for each application.
