No sign of the RTX 3090 Ti, and it may be that, having seen what has been seen, very few are the lucky ones who manage to get hold of one. And it is that the new information that reaches us is really worrying because NVIDIA seems to have tried to cover more than it could take and is dragging the graphics card manufacturers with it. The RTX 3090 Ti will be very scarce, very expensive, and facing VRAM issues.
What is happening with the RTX 3090 Ti for NVIDIA to keep such silence? It is complicated and above all it is a “state secret”. The reality is that even if we have a loose wallet, this graphics card will not come so easily to our PC, at least according to the leaks since it seems to be an exclusive card.
Production restricted to few units and countries
There is currently no planning to launch it on the market, that seems to be the reality. The leakers claim that this RTX 3090 Ti will only be destined for one task and it is nothing more than breaking world records, so it will be a unicorn that few will be able to enjoy. In fact, there is speculation about the number of units and their worldwide distribution, where there would be many countries where it would not arrive, so this will cause an international stir about its price, already speculative in itself.
The first leaks from retailers assure that it would reach the few stores that will have it for a price of 3,600 dollars, which will be increased by speculation to a whopping 4,500 dollars, a figure that could even be higher.
A Vietnamese store has published and subsequently deleted the price of a GALAX RTX 3090 Ti EX GAMER BLACK EDITION for a price of 86,990,000 VND, which when changed in dollars gives 3,840 and after that the change to euros would be 3,404 euros without taxes. After including them, we would obtain the figure of 4,118 euros in our country.
The problems they found late on the RTX 3090 Ti
If we remember its presentation, the RTX 3090 Ti will be the first graphics card to get the new Samsung memories at 21 Gbps low tech GDDR6X with PAM4where there is also another important change and that is to go from 8 GB to 16 GB modules.
This will affect the rear backplate which should be cooler, but oddly enough it doesn’t help memory with the midplate. The rumors here are quite accurate, since it is stated that there are very specific problems with this new VRAM, since it would be showing errors on the screen. How is it possible? It is unknown, but it is known that they were discovered relatively late in NVIDIA’s internal testing and the alarm was raised when the chips were already in the hands of the manufacturers.
Luckily and apparently the notice came on time, since these manufacturers were still in the testing and development phase of their models, so in January they were already aware of this problem. This has resulted in what we discussed two weeks ago: halting production until NVIDIA finds the problem and can fix it.
What seems certain is that until after the Chinese New Year the machinery for all this will not be resumed, so at least we will be another month and a half without seeing it in any store or at least having samples for reviews.
