After a Galaxy S21 FE which had a rather difficult launch, it seems that Samsung has decided not to release a successor in 2022. A new report announces that the Galaxy S22 FE has been canceled.
According to leaker Lankuz (yeux1122) on naverSamsung has not yet started development of the Galaxy S22 FE. The firm would not work on any firmware for the smartphone, and the production lines have not received any instructions. Everything indicates for now that Samsung will not release Galaxy S22 FE this year, although other leakers were already trying to predict which processor the smartphone would use.
According to Lankuz, here we are facing the same situation as with the Galaxy Note 21 last year. As a reminder, while we expected like every year that a Galaxy Note 21 will arrive on the market during the summer, Samsung had finally given up launching a new generation of smartphones. Instead, the Korean giant launched a Galaxy S22 Ultra with the same design as the Note line, but most importantly with an integrated S Pen stylus. Samsung had also confirmed the end of the Galaxy Note series in favor of foldable smartphones.
Why could Samsung have abandoned the Galaxy S22 FE?
Samsung’s discontinuation of the Galaxy S22 FE could unfortunately be linked to the global shortage of semiconductors. The Galaxy S21 FE was originally supposed to launch in late 2021, but Samsung had postponed its launch several times because of the shortage of chips, which hampered the production of the smartphone. It finally arrived at the beginning of 2022, but the smartphone has lost its main asset: good value for money.
Indeed, the shortage of semiconductors has forced Samsung to increase the prices of its Fan Edition range. The Galaxy S21 FE was released at a price of 759 euros in its basic version. It was therefore more expensive than the classic Galaxy S21, which had never happened before. Samsung has therefore probably questioned the relevance of this reference in its range of high-end smartphones, and could therefore have simply decided to abandon it this year.
