According to the report “Foodtech in Spain: Moving the Spanish Food System Forward”, promoted by ICEX, the sector is consolidated as the engine of the food industry. This is demonstrated by the data collected, where there is evidence of a growth of 220% between 2021 and 2020; and an amount of €695,000,000, which triples the figure invested in 2020.
The boom in this field is largely due to emerging delivery companies, which together with investments in alternative proteins and digitization of agriculture have facilitated this development. Thanks to this, Spain is the fifth Foodtech ecosystem with the highest investment in European territory, behind Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. Our country has 400 startups working on the development of the agri-food chain and its future applications.
