Bioammo, a pioneering Segovian SME in the manufacture of biocompostable cartridges for hunting and sports shooting, has gone one step further in its international growth strategy, after having recently signed an alliance with the American multinational, Olin Winchester LLC, the main ammunition manufacturer and distributor in the world.
This alliance, which will last for five years with the possibility of renewal, contemplates a distribution and manufacturing. The first will allow the American multinational to exclusively distribute all Bioammo products in the United States, Canada, Australia and Asia. With this operation, the Spanish company will be able to strengthen its position in these three markets in which it was already present and which are strategic at a business level, given the enormous tradition of hunting activity in these markets and its growing environmental awareness.
The second agreement contemplates the exclusive supply of Bioammo biocompostable components, so that Winchester includes them in the manufacture of the cartridges marketed under its own brand. Not surprisingly, Bioammo is the only company that has managed to create the only biodegradable and biocompostable cartridges in the world, which means that they do not leave any type of toxic residue in nature or require any recycling once they have been fired. With this operation, the Spanish company, based in the small Segovian municipality of Santa María la Real de Nieva, plans to produce this year more than 50 million sustainable cartridges throughout 2023 for a value of 16 million euros and double this figure next year when the logistics crisis of raw materials generated as a result of the pandemic has been overcome. To guarantee this production, Bioammo already has two production lines and will incorporate 15 workers, who will join the 30-employee staff of the factory located in the Segovian municipality of Santa María la Real de Nieva.
Capital increase to promote internationalization
In response to this demand, the company has carried out a new capital increase for an amount of 4 million euros from of the current shareholders and three family offices, which will ensure supply and production capacity given the strong demand for the product in international markets. Since the company began manufacturing its products, in January 2020, 90% of its sales have gone abroad, with the Anglo-Saxon countries representing the largest market share.
The future of hunting goes through sustainability

Proof of this is that these 100% biocompostable cartridges are being used with great success in 25 countries, as they combine environmental values with high ballistic quality.

The company will continue to maintain direct distribution in Europe, where it is present in 15 countries, among which, by volume of business, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands and Germany stand out. In Spain, Bioammo products are already available in the centers of Decathlon and El Corte Inglés and they are demanded by the most important hunting reserves and shooting clubs in the country.
