It was one of the most impressive games of the first half of 2022 since around the month of May it made an appearance on both consoles and PC. Also, in the case of Xbox, Microsoft included it in its Game Pass, so thousands of players enjoyed it from the first moment. Not surprisingly, its samurai theme and that graphic aspect reminiscent of old black and white Japanese movies exalted this Trek to Yomi.
Trek to Yomi leaves its mark
The point is that that approach in black and white was the one that drew special attentionbut also its development that ventured a game as simple as it was classic that resorted to a traditional scroll side to take us by the hand through his argument. Do not expect scenarios through which to move freely from top to bottom, but a single action plane where the entire revenge story of Trek to Yomi.
It must be said that now, finally, Nintendo Switch users will be able to enjoy it, after many months waiting for it to be announced, so Devolver Digital has finally set the date and time for that moment. It will be just in a week, on January 30, 2023, when we can get hold of this game at a price of 19.99 euros through the Nintendo eShop. At the moment there will be no version in physical format but if things work the same, its developers could consider producing a small consignment for the most fans.
The point is that this version of Trek to Yomi It will be identical to those we have already seen on consoles and PC so it will not add anything new, neither in the form of extras nor of the story itself, which was already well enough narrated on both PlayStation and Xbox and computers.
Young Hiroki’s Revenge
The story of Trek to Yomi takes us to a Japanese village where the young warrior Hiroki lives, who on the deathbed of his master he will swear to defend and protect his people from the evil that threatens them and that will take him to live a journey in which tragedy, duty, life and death are intermingled with each combat.
One of the great achievements of the game was to create an atmosphere so original and unique that to this day it is still a differential element of this game. Trek to Yomi, for the use he makes of the frames, the focus areas and the movements of the perspective around our character that, despite the appearances of the screens or the videos, cannot move more than in a single plane from left to right. Like classic games from the early days like karateka, Prince of Persiaetc.
It must be said that all the success that Flying Wild Hog had in presenting the story was somewhat blurred by the game mechanics, which become a bit repetitive with each new enemy we face. A detail that, like everything else, depends on tastes and that if you ignore it –it will not be the first video game to do something like this– will allow you to enjoy a true classic on Nintendo Switch.
