the tablet that wants to overshadow Samsung and Xiaomi

The brand’s first tablet, the Oppo Pad offers a 120 Hz screen and a Snapdragon 870 to try to walk on the flowerbeds of Apple or Samsung.

The tablet market is once again of interest to manufacturers and Oppo decides to try its luck. Very active before MWC 2022, the Chinese brand has just presented its Find X5 Pro, Enco X2 headphones and launched its Watch Free watch in France. In its boxes, Oppo also has a tablet and this is a first.

Called Oppo Pad, the brand’s first slate offers us an 11-inch LCD screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The IPS panel displays a definition of 2560 x 1600 pixels and supports HDR10. With a thickness of 6.99 mm for an announced weight of 507 grams, the Oppo Pad has a rather promising Snapdragon 870 despite the arrival of the Snadragon 8 Gen 1 or the presence of the Snapdragon 888. It should amount to comfortable at the heart of a tablet flanked by 6 or 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. However, it is not possible to add a microSD card.

To power its machine, Oppo offers an 8,300 mAh battery; compatible with fast charging at 33 W. The charger is supplied and charging takes place via a USB-C port.

A well-equipped tablet running ColorOS for Pad

For the audio part, we note the presence of four speakers with Dolby Atmos support and Hi-Res Audio certification. The tablet is also designed for video calls with its 8 megapixel (f / 2.0) front camera. At the rear, the Pad adds a single sensor displaying a definition of 13 megapixels (f / 2.2). Not surprisingly, the photo component is anecdotal and only serves as a backup solution.

The whole thing runs under the ColorOS for Pad interface, based on ColorOS 12. An approach that is reminiscent of that of iPadOS at Apple and which allows Oppo to offer support for the Oppo Pencil.

Other features include compatibility with wifi 6 or Bluetooth 5.1.

Oppo Pad: the tablet first targets China

Like Air Glass, the Chinese market will be a priority when this tablet is released. The Oppo Pad will be available in China from March 3 in three colors: black, silver and purple. The basic model (6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage) is announced at around 325 euros excluding taxes (2,299 yuan); the 8/256 GB variant will cost around 425 euros excluding tax (2,999 yuan). Pen and keyboard will be sold separately. Oppo does not specify whether it intends to launch its tablet internationally, and in particular in France. In the event of an exit in France, the prices will be higher.
