“The Tinder scammer” speaks out for the first time

After the broadcast of the Netflix documentary, Shimon Hayut announces that he wants to attack the platform for defamation. “I am not a monster”.

“Modern love is a dangerous game.” This is how Netflix sums up its documentary The Tinder Swindler, released on February 2 on its platform. From the creators of Don’t F*ck with The Catsthe film traces the story of the women who crossed paths with this man who extorted thousands of euros from them thanks to an ingenious system.

According to the documentary, he called himself Simon Leviev, and claimed to be the son of a wealthy Israeli diamond dealer. To seduce his victims, he pulls out all the stops: private jet, overpriced restaurants and impromptu trips to the most beautiful hotels, nothing is too good for his new sweetheart. After several months of occasional encounters, the noose tightens around the victim. The man claims to be chased by competitors in his industry, and supports his argument with bloody photos and alleged threats received daily.

It was at this time that he asked his companions to take out loans, to allow him to travel while staying away from radar and thus ensure his safety. Over time, its victims are crumbling in debt and only realize too late that they have been scammed.

“I am not an impostor.”

After having remained silent for several weeks, Shimon Hayut finally spoke at the microphone of Inside Edition. Alongside his current girlfriend, the man has denied all the allegations made in the documentary. “I am not a monster. I was just a single guy who wanted to meet girls on Tinder”. He also explained the origin of his fortune, which he believes was due to a successful investment in bitcoin in 2011. “It cost nothing then, and I don’t need to remind them of their value now”. He also clarified his intention to sue Netflix for “distortion and lies”.

As a reminder, Shimon Hayut was sentenced to 15 months in prison in Israel in 2019. He will only serve 5 in the end. He was also sentenced to prison in Finland. He currently lives in Israel with his girlfriend. His profits, however, have been banned from all Match Group apps like Tinder, OkCupid, Hinge and PlentyOfFish. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shimon Hayut has since signed with an agent and joined the personalized messaging platform Cameo. A video is marketed at 199 dollars. This Monday, February 21, he also launched an NFT collection and a site that sells t-shirts “My enemies are after me”a phrase he used to scare his victims.
