The next installment in The Witcher saga is in development at CD Projekt RED. The Cyberpunk 2077 studio officially confirms the information. Geralt de Riv will return, it is now confirmed. Indeed, CD Projekt RED has announced on its official website and on social networks that a new one is in development. The studio does not specify whether it is indeed an opus of the main series or a derivative product. However, the very few CD Projekt indications point to sequel to The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. This bodes very well.

The confirmation of The Witcher 4 has therefore taken place on the official site from which the image that accompanies this article is taken. In this image, you can see Geralt’s pendant in the shape of a wolf whose eyes glow wildly. The pendant is half buried in snow, suggesting that the scenario could bring the White Wolf back to the Northern Kingdoms, a part of the continent explored in the second season of the series broadcast on Netflix.

The Witcher 4 is in development on Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt released a very short message on its official website. In the latter, the studio explains that the new opus of The Witcher is in development, but that it will not benefit from REDEnginethe game engine used for The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt chose to rely on Unreal Engine 5, thus playing it safe. We still remember the extremely difficult beginnings of Cyberpunk 2077. And the developers obviously do not want to repeat this experience.

The fact that CD Projekt RED chooses Unreal Engine 5 confirms to us that it isa big game and not a derivative project such as Gwentthe strategic card game from The Witcher 3 which became independent Free-to-Play in 2017, or ThroneBreakeranother collectible card game released in 2018. So it’s great news to announce this new main game. The third episode was released in 2015 and the second in 2011. However, you will need to be patient to play it: CD Projekt does not venture to announce a launch date, or even the platforms on which it will be playable.
