The Xbox Series S is selling better than the PS5 in Japan, it’s historic

For the first time since its launch, the Xbox Series S obtains better sales scores than the PS5 in Japan. Last week, Microsoft sold 6,120 copies of its 100% digital console, against only 2,240 for Sony’s. The shortage of components has something to do with it, of course, but these figures again underline the increasingly deteriorating relationship between the Japanese and the PlayStation.

This is a historic milestone that Microsoft has just passed. While the firm has never really managed to convince the Japanese population with its consoles, the Xbox Series S is seriously changing the game. Indeed, for the first time in its history, the latter has just recorded better sales than its longtime rival, the PS5. And the difference is significant to say the least.

Last week, the Xbox Series S therefore passed at 6120 copies in the Land of the Rising Sun. A nice score which is all the more so when compared to that of the PS5. For its part, Sony only sold 2240 units of his latest console. Even more embarrassing for the firm, this figure combines the sales of the standard version of the Digital Edition, unlike the Xbox Series S therefore. In addition, the Xbox Series X has only sold 105 copies.

Japan is moving a little further away from Sony and the PS5

So here are the full console sales figures in Japan last week:

  • OLED switch – 35,868
  • Switch- 20,443
  • Switch Lite- 9.011
  • Xbox Series S – 6,120
  • PS5- 2,240
  • PS5 Digital Edition— 453
  • New 2DS LL — 235
  • Xbox Series X- 105
  • PS4— 22

Not surprisingly, Nintendo therefore pulverizes all the competition with the three models of its Switch. But the Xbox Series S is definitely there, at the foot of the podium. New proof if any of Sony’s decline in Japan, which is having a lot of trouble selling its PS5. (www.stocktargetadvisor.com) Of course, the shortage of components plays a major role in this situation. Recently, Microsoft succeeds in boosting its production while its Japanese competitor is still struggling to achieve its goals.

But the thing remains a feat. Microsoft has always tried to seduce the Japanese market, more or less in vain. Over the past 20 years, the Redmond firm has sold 2.3 million Xboxes in the country, including 1.6 million Xbox 360s. The Xbox One clearly did not appeal to Japanese players, and the Xbox Series took their time to enter the market. It looks like it’s been done.
