Xiaomi has just launched its most powerful smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, but it failed to impress DXOMARK photo experts, ranking slightly behind the iPhone 13 Pro.
A few days ago, Xiaomi officially launched its new Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro in France. The DXOMARK site has already been able to test the most powerful model in depth, and delivered results that are not as impressive as expected. Indeed, on the photo part, the Xiaomi 12 Pro collected a total score of 131 points, 6 points lower than the iPhone 13 Pro.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro managed to get a score of 141 points on the photo part, which is not so bad since the iPhone 13 Pro is at 144 points. However, Xiaomi’s smartphone disappoints in terms of zoom, with a score of only 65 points. As a reminder, the device only has a telephoto lens offering a 2X optical zoom, far from what most other Android flagships offer. The video is nevertheless more convincing, since it obtains 111 points, against 119 for the high-end smartphone from Apple.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro does as well as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Although the Xiaomi 12 Pro is priced at $300 less than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Xiaomi’s smartphone managed to get the same total score as Samsung’s premium device. This one had obtained a rather low score of 134 points in photo, 114 points in video and 86 points in zoom. It’s no wonder the Galaxy S22 Ultra does better in the latter category, since it’s equipped with a telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom as well as a periscope with 10X optical zoom. However, Samsung’s smartphone was even less convincing than the Xiaomi 12 Pro in the photo according to DXOMARK experts.
In its test of the Xiaomi 12 Pro, DXOMARK mainly concerns good detail in all lighting conditions, fast autofocus in photos and videos and good stabilization. However, the white balance is not always well controlled and the bokeh effect is not very natural. Anyway, according to our own tests, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is a good camera phone, but it doesn’t come close to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra of the previous generation. As a reminder, the latter always ranks third in the DXOMARK ranking with a total score of 143 pointsjust behind the Huawei P50 Pro and the Honor Magic4 Ultimate.
