The Xiaomi 13 will indeed change its name and go directly to number 14

While we could logically expect to see Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro arrive by the beginning of November, everything suggests that the Chinese manufacturer will finally skip number 13 and go directly to Xiaomi 14.

A few days ago, Xiaomi had already left doubte on the final name of its next series of high-end smartphones. After the Qualcomm conference dedicated to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, the Chinese manufacturer avoided naming its next smartphone. Rather than mentioning a Xiaomi 13, the brand only referred to “new flagships”.

However, Xiaomi had taken the habit of always lifting the veil on the naming of its new series at that time. Several Internet users then wondered if a name change could be on the horizon, and that is probably what will happen. On the Chinese social network Weibo, several images have come to reinforce this hypothesis.

The Xiaomi 13 will finally be called Xiaomi 14

On Weibo, a user posted an image of a box full of Xiaomi smartphone boxes. Among them, we note especially the box of what appears to be the manufacturer’s next high-end device, the “Xiaomi 14”. The packaging also features a logo of Leica, Xiaomi’s partner in the photo since the release of the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro and 12S Ultra. An image of a system menu also appeared, on which we can see that the smartphone will have 12 GB of RAM, and Android 13.

The exact reason for a name change is currently unknown, but we imagine that Xiaomi probably just wanted align the name of its smartphones to those of its overlay, which will soon be upgraded to version 14. This seems in no way related to the reputation of the number 14 in the West. Xiaomi hadn’t been shy about releasing smartphones with the number 4, which symbolizes bad luck in China because of its similar pronunciation to the word “death”.

Anyway, we will soon know more about the Xiaomi 14, since the Chinese manufacturer has reportedly planned to unveil MIUI 14 as early as December 1. As usual, the launch of new smartphones should take place on the same date in China, then a few weeks later at home in France.
