Thermae Romae Novae: Netflix announces the arrival of the anime in 2022

Netflix revealed during his livestream event Netflix Festival Japan 2021 which, soon, will make its debut on the video streaming platform Thermae Romae Novae, the new anime based on the manga Thermae Romae by Mari Yamazaki.

The anime will debut worldwide in 2022 (and not this year, as originally planned).

Tetsuya Tatamitani (Africa Salaryman) is directing the anime while Yūichirō Momose (Africa Salaryman, So I’m a Spider, So What?) wrote the scripts. NAZ is producing the animation based on the original manga drawings, but we know there will also be new stories written by Yamazaki.

Here is the official synopsis of the anime released on the net by Netflix:

Lucius, a thermal bath designer from the Roman Empire, accidentally slips forward in time to modern day Japan and learns about the culture of Japanese thermal baths in this comedy.

Netflix announced a partnership with Yamazaki along with five other Japanese creators in February 2020, to develop and produce original Japanese anime projects.

Yamazaki finished his Thermae Romae manga in March 2013, with the manga having previously inspired a three-episode anime in 2012 and two live-action films starring Hiroshi Abe and Aya Ueto.

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime with English subtitles and English dubbing, while Star Comics has published the manga in Italy (which you can find HERE).
