They use AirTags to steal high-end cars.

AirTags concept

When Apple created the AirTags, it thought that it would be the essential device so that we did not forget anything about anything and in case it was so, we could recover them wherever they were. Thanks to its worldwide network, finding an AirTag placed in lost mode is almost like a cakewalk. Some always think of how to use good to do evil. If harassing people seemed wrong to you, what they do in Canada will at least seem creepy to you.

The York Regional Police in Canada has identified a new method used by thieves to track and steal high-end vehicles. They take advantage of the location tracking capabilities of the AirTag. While the method of stealing the vehicles is largely conventional, the purpose of the AirTag is to track a high-end car back to a victim’s residence, where it can be stolen with more peace of mind.

Since September 2021, police officers in the York, Canada region alone have investigated five incidents in which suspects used AirTags in high-end vehicle thefts. Thieves board any vehicle they find in public places and parking lots. They all have something in common, they are very expensive cars. They place an AirTag in a out of sight areasuch as on the trailer hitch or fuel cap.

Although Apple implemented features that alerted people that an unknown AirTag was tracking them. And even though thieves have no way to disable those features, they typically the victim does not know or you ignore the prompts on your phone.

The statement has been issued because the police expect the cases of robberies to multiply using this method. They ask people to take a little more care of their safety and ignore the notifications on the phone. Let them see if something has changed in his car.
