Thinking of changing your TV? These are the differences between the LG OLED C2 and G2

Thinking of changing your TV? These are the differences between the LG OLED C2 and G2. Although we did an article for you a few days ago telling you all the news of this new range of LG televisions, today we wanted to make a summary of the two great stars of these Smart TVs of 2022: the C2 and G2 models, what differences do they have?

Before we start, it seems pretty clear that the new technology OLED EX will begin to be incorporated at the end of 2022 (for the 2023 TV range), so it seems unlikely to find it on the C2 and G2 models. So, what are the differentiating elements between them?

The LG’s new range of OLED TVs It has been one of the great novelties of this CES of 2022 and, surely, they will repeat as the best-selling models of the year, since they always have all the latest technologies for users and a great value for money. The issue at hand is, is it worth paying the extra for the G2?

Although it is yet to be confirmed, it seems quite certain that both models will have OLED Evo panels, these new screens made up of a new deuterium component that makes them more resistant to burning, retention, while consuming 20% less energy and they can be 10-20% brighter than a conventional OLED panel.

Heatsink, the big difference

LG welcomes Samsung to the OLED Mini LED world

It is the main and the great difference between both models. LG will equip its highest range, the LG OLED G2, with a heat sink which will allow LG to make the pixels of the panel work more intensely, causing them to undergo a greater current of energy, thus being able to reach levels of brightness higher than normal. It’s something that we explain you in your day and that it seems that we will see it become a reality in this G2. The first leaks speak of about 850 to 900 nits, thus putting it in the range of the Sony A90J and Panasonic 2000 series.

This idea is not new, since the first to devise this system was Panasonic, back in 2019, with its successful GZ2000 series even if then Sony repeated in its A90J range. The Japanese came up with the idea of tackling the main problem of OLED to increase in brightness: heat. They came up with the idea of adding a rear heatsink (a thick copper plate) between the panel and the rear electronics, thus allowing the heat generated by the OLED pixels to dissipate sooner… with multiple advantages. One we have already discussed: more brightness, but the second is not far behind.

The rapid heat dissipation means that retention and burning are practically non-existent, since the sub-pixel does not degrade practically anything when expelling the heat outside the panel itself. As if that were not enough, it also brings with it a third advantage: the sub-pixels are subjected to less electrical current, so by generating heat and dissipating it quickly, their useful life increases considerably.

Specifically, if we touch a panel with a heatsink, we will immediately see that it is colder (the panel, not the heatsink), a symptom that the TV is capable of expelling all the heat generated impeccably and, as we indicated, having a positive effect on the useful life of the product. Technically, the back plate acts as a heatpipe giant, which retains all the heat and gradually expels it from behind.

Design: attached to the wall like a painting

The other great advantage of the G2 over the C2 is its design: it is created specifically to be hung on the wall, what’s more, with the purchase of this television a very special wall bracket is included, since it is not only used to hang it on the wall …if not that it is completely attached to it, since it “enters” a special indentation that the LG G2 has in the back.

Other important advantages of this own support is that it allows you to rotate it vertically (in case it has become crooked) and even remove it about 7-8 cm to be able to reach the cable area comfortably. In addition, it supports up to 77 inches and is certified by LG that it supports the weight of the television.

Conclusions: this year if there are important differences

Apart from the heatsink and design, everything else will be identical between both ranges: OLED Evo panels, same fifth-generation Alpha 9 processor, amount of RAM, operating system, remote control, etc.

At least this year we find notable differences in image quality, since we will see the LG C2 again in the brightness range of 720-740 nits, while the G2 will at least reach 850, in addition to being much more resistant to burns and retentions, something that the most gamers will appreciate.
