Few are the actors who do not want to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether in a leading role, as a villain or with a simple cameo, not many artists resist the charms of Disney. Lately, it is not unreasonable to get up with the news that an actor has proposed himself to play a character in a Marvel Studios movie. Recently our dear Giancarlo Esposito has dropped that he would love to join the cast of reboot from one of our favorite comic book franchises.
Esposito wants to be the good guy in the movie for the first time
Giancarlo Esposito has become an actor capable of playing truly fearsome villains. Many of us met him in Breaking Bad, where he played Gus Fring, a charismatic Chilean smuggler who had a double life as a drug trafficker. When he left Los Pollos Hermanos, the humble and methodical entrepreneur brought out the most sadistic and calculating side of him, since he managed an entire drug empire from the basement of a laundry.
His role in Vince Gilligan’s play was simply brilliant, and years later he would return in Better Call Saul. In this prequel, Esposito has been carving out his villainous history a little more. The character of him before him was not such a safe name, and we have also been shown how he freed himself from his fears in this last season that is two episodes away.
In between, Esposito has played other characters that have captured what a good actor he is. we saw it as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian and as Stan Edgar more recently in TheBoys. It is clear that Esposito knows how to play a villain, but the American actor says that he does not want to be pigeonholed. For this reason, a few days ago he dropped that he would love to play a hero. He did it on stage at the TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con. There, he admitted that he would like to step into the shoes of the Professor Charles Xavier in a reboot from X-Men.
“I haven’t worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in the room with them and I’ve talked about it. I would like to go a little different way. I would love to play Professor X.”
Can fans get Gus Fring into X-Men?
Of course, the comment is not the result of chance. Giancarlo Esposito knows that there are many of us fans who would see anything in which he appears on screen. In fact, John Krasinski got her role in Doctor Strange precisely because it was the fans who supported him.
Would it make sense to see Esposito playing Charles Xavier? He may seem crazy, but the truth is that he is. Xavier is sometimes not as heroic a character as we could see in the versions that hit theaters. The touch mysterious and calculating that this actor gives to his characters could be a brilliant resource in order to build a character more similar to the one that appears in the comics.
For our part, we hope and wish that Marvel Studios listens to the words of this actor. If not, DC may end up getting the gauntlet. Especially for his brief performance as Dos Caras during the last episode of the fourth season of Breaking Bad.
