This AI-imagined human evolution goes viral for obvious reasons

We have good news. The AI they are not creationists. They believe in Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, so we can say that they already have a couple of fingers ahead than some humans. The bad news is that they continue to give a bit of yuyu. And if not, tell Fabio Comparelli, an artist who has used a image generating artificial intelligence to study how the neural network interprets the concept of evolution.

What happens when you ask an AI to generate “Human Evolution.”

This is terrifying. https://t.co/pmXneYQA9g

the content creator, Fabio Comparelli, has managed to create a true viral phenomenon with an animation of about 40 seconds. The video begins with a monkey climbing a tree. Little by little, the frames vary, and we see how the character transforms. The monkey becomes the typical caveman. Later, we see him transformed into the typical medieval warrior. The video progresses, and we quickly notice that the AI takes us to the present time, with a man looking at his mobile phone. And that’s when the fun begins.

Our protagonist gets robotic limbs. Something not unreasonable, because humanity will reach that point sooner or later. Continuing with the animation, the cyborg turns directly into a robot. When you think that things can no longer vary, the character ends up transforming into a kind of being alien that ends up merging with a background full of machines.

How can I make such an animation with AI?

If we go to Fabio Comparelli’s original post on Instagram, we will see that he uses the tags ‘Midjourney‘ Y ‘stable diffusion‘, which are two of the most advanced AIs out there right now.

Analyzing Fabio’s profile, we could venture to say that the style he obtains is a product of Midjourney. However, we have seen some users generate animations of this type almost from day one and with different intelligences.

With stable diffusion

In the case that you use Stable Diffusion, what you have to do is generate images until you get a first frame that you like. The prompt must be complex, since, for the following images, you will have to use the same seeds and vary the prompt very slightly.

with midjourney

On the other hand, in Midjourney, things are different. Since last week, there is a new tool that is used precisely to make this type of creation. By the date of publication of this viral Instagram video, Fabio should not have had access to this feature, so it is most likely that he got it simply by doing versions of the images.

You most likely got the monkey image without directly typing the word ‘monkey’. Then, by doing variationsComparelli will have kept only the most interesting variations, that is, those that transformed the image by way of evolution.

midday mode remix

If you’re going to do it now, it’s even easier. Use the command ‘/settings’ on your Discord server and activate ‘RemixMode‘. In this case, we would generate an image of the monkey and when clicking on ‘V1’, the system will bring up the dialog again to be able to modify the prompt. Here we would change ‘monkey’ to ‘caveman’. At this point, we will simply make modifications until we reach where we want. Of course, the final result will not be as original as the example.

Once done, all you have to do is enlarge the frames and assemble them in a video editing program to form the animation. The next thing would only be to upload the video to Instagram and wait patiently to receive all the corresponding likes.
