Cybersecurity company Bitdefender announces the addition of real-time monitoring functionality to Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android.
BitDefender launches a new Android tool named App Anomaly Detection. It is the first app of its kind to monitor android smartphone activity in real time. It provides a “behaviour-based layer of protection”, which means, in other words, that the app detects abnormal and/or malicious behavior in Android applications throughout the day.
Now, cyberattacks target hospitals, governments or even “ordinary” citizens. Hackers are increasingly conducting their campaigns through malicious android apps or compromised. Despite the vigilance of cybersecurity experts, these malware are often still downloadable from the most used application stores such as the Play Store. Millions of users install these “poor” applications each year, and unknowingly become spreaders of this malware designed to steal credentials users.
BitDefender App Anomaly Detection monitors Android app activity in real time
According to Bitdefender, the App Anomaly Detection tool “protects users against attacks that could lead to financial loss, account takeover or identity theft” and alerts them in real time. Other security solutions for Android detect malware based on their signatures, a technique that cybercriminals can circumvent by creating “mobile applications that only reveal malicious behavior after a certain period of time”. App Anomaly Detection avoids this pitfall by using machine learning technology that analyzes behavior in real time and immediately notices when an app becomes malicious.
A BitDefender official adds: “Such detection technologies already exist for desktop PCs, but Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection is new to the Android ecosystem. […] Users are now also safe from malware, increasingly sophisticated scams and Trojans that target mobile devices.” Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection is offered to all new and existing Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android users with a valid license at no additional cost.
