hisense continues to launch phones in China with very peculiar features, and the new A9 repeats the play that surprised so much a few years ago. We are referring to the decision to bet on an electronic ink screen in a smartphone, a brave decision that many still wish they could get their hands on.
The E Ink screen phone
The new HiSense A9 is a 6.1-inch device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor that draws special attention for having a monochrome screen of E-Ink technology. With a resolution of 1,648 x 824 pixels, don’t expect to see too much detail in images and videos, but perhaps that is not the purpose of the device, whose intention is none other than to achieve the greatest possible autonomy.
This model was launched last year and has been quite well received, although those looking for a little more ease in the team performance Now you can buy the version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a version that has just recently arrived in China.
Useful for the days that run?
The Interface of the A9 comes with very simple icons that are represented very well on the screen of electronic ink. In general, the device works perfectly in all aspects, but the moment you start consuming today’s content, you discover that the black and white screen is not enough to enjoy a freshly taken photo.
However, the device searches for another type of profile user. The electronic ink screen seeks to reduce energy consumption, so we are talking about a device that will allow you to have several days of use of the battery which, by the way, is 4,000 mAh.
It won’t be the best device for viewing photos, let alone watching Netflix from it, but if what you’re looking for is a phone that has access to email, the internet, and reaches a impossible autonomy for traditional devices, the HiSense A9 could be very interesting for you.
Only in China
The bad news however is that the device is still only available in china for 1,800 yuan (about 250 euros), so you have no choice but to forget about it or buy it through distributors like AliExpress, where they do sell the phone. Even so, the device arrives without Google services, so you will have to install an application that almost restores them, but is not capable of offering Google Maps, for example.
The issue of languages is not very well resolved either, since it will only be available in English and Chinese, and a translation plugin will not manage to leave everything as you expect. Seen what has been seen, perhaps the best idea would be to forget about it, although we cannot deny that if it reached our market it would be a pleasant surprise.
