On the market for electric and hybrid vehicles, autonomy is one of the main sinews of war. Manufacturers reveal ingenuity to increase, model after model, the number of kilometers you can travel before going to the pump or the recharging box. Volkswagen, for example, recently announced a range boost on the next version of its ID.4 SUV, with a promise of 450 km of range, or 32 km more than the previous model.

However, this estimate seems much lower than that offered by the L9, the latest SUV from the Chinese brand Li Auto. This imposing SUV with its 3.10 wheelbase, 5.20 m long and 2 m wide will be presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2022. The manufacturer has already revealed some details about the beast.

Under the hood, there will thus be an electrical block associated with a 4.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine, which will be responsible for powering the vehicle battery. Note that the gasoline engine will never propel the wheels, its only mission being to recharge the 44.5 kWh Lithium-ion battery.

An impressive autonomy of 1200 km

The result is a substantial power of 400 hp and above all a rather impressive range for a hybrid vehicle: 1200km according to the manufacturer! Provided you have the battery and 65 liter tank at full capacity of course. In the passenger compartment, the brand has opted for a rather high level of finish, as evidenced by the first photos.

There are three large screens, one at the front acting as an infotainment system, another of the same size in front of the front passenger and a third placed high up for the rear passengers. You can additionally count the head-up display in augmented reality for the driver. Like Tesla in his time, the brand has integrated on the L9 a Lidar sensor, 5 radars and 12 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensorsthe ultimate goal being to offer level 4 autonomous driving.

For the moment, Li Auto has not mentioned any possible marketing of the L9 outside Chinese borders. The SUV will be offered between 450,000 and 500,00 yuan, or between 64,000 and 71,000 €.
