This is how the first AMD processor with hybrid cores performs

You should know that monolithic processors had all the same cores, only their count varied. This is changed in the heterogeneous design, where different types of cores are combined.

Now we have efficiency cores that tend to have less frequency and no threads, being very efficient. These cores are active for light tasks like multimedia, browsing, and the like. They are combined with power cores, which have higher frequencies and threads. They are normally in a “standby” phase until power is needed, such as in games.

First performance data for heterogeneous AMD Ryzen

Intel has left behind the monolithic processor design for several generations to adopt the heterogeneous system. It is not his invention, since the first to design processors of this type was ARM. Its big.LITTLE architecture combines different types of cores, sometimes up to three different ones.

This heterogeneous processor design will soon be adopted by AMD and the time for monolithic processors will end. The company will combine Zen 4 cores of power with cores Zen 4C of efficiency.

The interesting thing is in the Zen 4C cores, which differ in some aspects with Intel’s efficiency ones. These Zen 4C will have processing threads, while Intel equivalents do not have. AMD reduces consumption and trims the cache on these cores, nothing more.

It has been seen by Geekbench the AMD Ryzen 3 7440U processor intended for laptops. This processor has 2 Zen 4 cores and 2 Zen 4C cores, adding 8 threads. The frequencies are not specified, it is only said that reach to the 4.9GHz, which should be the Boost frequency of the Zen 4 cores.

Geekbench reveals that this processor adds 4 MB L2 cache and 8 MB L3 cache, without specifying anything else. It is also highlighted that it has a AMD RDNA3 graphics Integrated with 4 Compute Units working at a maximum frequency of 2.5 GHz.

You show this analysis software which for a single core gives a result of 2323 points. Value that surpasses the quad-core Intel Core i3-13100F and i3-12300 processors.

On the other hand, the overall performance of this processor is 6571 points. It is not a bad figure, but it is shown slightly above the Core i3-13100T. The results are so similar that we can even say that they perform the same.

They look quite interesting

Most likely, the final models will not differ at all with respect to the data seen in these benchmarks. Taking into account that AMD offers processors with a better performance/price ratio, they can be very good.

Everything indicates that they are processors for laptops, which will improve the company’s presence in this segment. If they offer optimal performance for casual gaming, it may even be an option chosen by many.
