This is how the Radeon RX 6900 XT LC performs, AMD’s most powerful gaming GPU?

The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT LC is as its name indicates a version of the RX 6900 XT, but as its name indicates it is a cooled model with liquid cooling through the radiator that it has incorporated. However, it is an elusive GPU to say the least, since AMD only sells it to some computer builders instead of selling it as a standalone graphics card. What has made Lisa Su’s company distribute it for analysis to different media.

RX 6900 XT LC GPU-Z performance

The PC Games Hardware medium has been made with an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT LC, the most powerful of the graphics cards that AMD has designed to date and therefore its top of the range of the RX 6000. The main GPU is the same than the RX 6900, but it is the few chips that come out of each wafer that can achieve a higher clock speed. So AMD has christened the chip Navi XTXH.

What clock speed can it reach? As you can see in the images, the information provided by GPU-Z tells us that the Base clock speed is 2250 MHz with a Boost of 2435 MHz and a Game Clock of 2250 MHz. But what is really surprising is the memory controller clock speed, which has been raised to 2310 Mhz. Taking into account that it is GDDR6 memory we are talking about a 18.48 Gbps bandwidth. Which is information that until now we had unpublished, this together with the fact that the graphics card is being sold to assemblers makes us think that AMD’s objective is to sell the RX 6900 XT to mining farms.

What is the gaming performance of the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT LC?

Well it seems that if we are talking about games based exclusively on rasterization the RX 6900 XT LC outperforms the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti by more than three points, 99 compared to 95.7, and is almost on par with the GeForce RTX 3090. However, given that the performance of the RX 6000 is worse in Ray Tracing, we find that the ranking varies completely if we are rendering a game that makes use of ray tracing.

Regarding the performance with Ray Tracing, we find that the performance of the AMD RX 6900 XT LC drops several points. Given that it only gets 77.4 points, below even the RTX 3080 that manages to reach 88 points, but still further away from the 3080 Ti with 96.2 points and the RTX 3090 with 100 points.

It is a pity that AMD has not decided to launch this graphics card for the gaming market and that we do not have an approximate price for this version. The cryptocurrency mining market has so distorted the price that graphics card providers have decided to opt out of selling their products directly to the enthusiastic gaming market. In any case, Ray Tracing is AMD’s pending subject in RDNA 2.
