A four year old girl it was rescued alive and in good condition this Wednesday, more than two weeks after it is presumed out taken out of a tent during a family trip in the remote west coast of Australiathe police reported.
The police found Cleo smith in a house in the seaside town of Carnarvon, and a 36-year-old man was arrested in a morning police operation, said Western Australian Police Deputy Commissioner Col Blanch.
According to the AP agency, the girl had disappeared last October 16 with his sleeping bag from his family’s tent at Camp Blowholes, located about 75 kilometers (47 miles) north of the family’s home in Carnarvon, a city of 5,000.
“Cleo is alive and wellBlanch said. “One of the officers took her in his arms and asked her: ‘What’s your name?’ She replied, ‘My name is Cleo,’ ”the official added.
Shortly after, the four-year-old met his mother Ellie Smith and stepfather Jake Gibbon.
It is not clear if the reward of one million Australian dollars (743 thousand US dollars), offered five days after her disappearance was what led the police to find her.
How was Cleo’s disappearance?
Cleo Smith disappeared between 1:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the second day of a camping trip with her parents and younger sister, Isla. The girls had been in a separate tent compartment from the parents’.
The police suspected that she had been abducted because the closure of a flap of a tent was opened at a height that she could not reach.
Forensics had examined the exterior of the family home for evidence to indicate whether someone had been following Cleo and trying to enter.
This case had captivated the nation. After his rescue, the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott morrison, thanked the police for finding Cleo and supporting her family.
What wonderful and comforting news. Cleo Smith has been found and is safely home, ”Morrison tweeted. “Our prayers have been heard,” he added.
