all that of the eye tracking technology sounds great but who is behind all this? Is Sony the one that has been encouraged to develop the technology? Obviously not. Behind the function is the company with the greatest recognition in this field, and it is none other than Tobii. It has been the company itself that has confirmed the data through official statements, where they confirm that they are working together with Sony Interactive Entertainment to be the provider of eye-tracking technology in the brand’s new virtual reality viewer. The interesting thing about the announcement is that it is specified that they are in full negotiation, so, if the supplier has not yet reached an agreement, we could understand that the manufacture of the viewer still needs a few more months. This would leave us with the question of whether the new PlayStation VR2 will really hit stores this year, a date that has been around for a long time and that would fit in with a powerful hardware launch within the PlayStation ecosystem.
A launch that shouldn’t take long
It is curious that even with its own official website for the product, at this point we still do not know what the aesthetic aspect of the new virtual reality glasses for PS5 will be. That’s Sony’s best kept secret, so we imagine it won’t show it off until a future dedicated event (a State of Playwe imagine), where in addition to showing the design of the viewfinder, the manufacturer is encouraged to finally reveal the final release date.
