This is the price of the Core i9-12900KS, spoiler: it won’t be cheap at all

Intel feels the threat of AMD and its V-Cache technology again and for this reason it will react to continue at the top of the table in the world of gaming. The already famous i9-12900K is going to have a worthy successor that is based on an internal binning of Intel itself and that will hit the market as i9-12900KS honoring its predecessors. The problem will not be the performance against AMD, the problem will be the price of this i9-12900KSwhich has leaked and has unleashed quite an interesting wave to deal with.

It will be the fastest manufactured by Intel to date for the enthusiast sector, it will not be a breath of fresh air, but it will be a commitment to maximum performance and the competition it has at the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D In the spotlight. When will this gaming beast cost and when will it arrive?

The price of the i9-12900KS will be 200 euros more expensive than its K version

AMD’s announcement of its new top-of-the-line gaming CPU has shaken Intel’s foundation and it’s not because they didn’t expect it. On the contrary, those of Pat Gelsinger already had in mind an improvement of their star processor, but they still did not know how much it was going to cost for the public.

As is going to happen at AMD and which we will discuss later with the new i9-12900KS, it involves creating specific wafers that go beyond traditional binning, according to rumors, Intel has tightened the architecture and the frequency that it can achieve with its 10nm to the maximum. and the result is a maximum clock of 5.5GHz (+300MHz)figures unthinkable only 5 years ago.

There are no feature changes from the KS version to the K version which is now selling like hotcakes beyond that value and the Boost allocations, which will now scale much better and on more cores it seems. But that means such extremely good chips on the wafers that the price of the processor will rise by as much as $200.

More than 800 euros at our borders

The price will rise as consumption rises (150 watts on Base and 260 watts in PBP or PL2) up to $791.74, which in our borders will be something more than 800 euros, a nonsense many will think. And they would not be without reason, but it is the price they will have to pay if they want to get this i9-12900KS, because the AMD option is not going to be cheap either and here are the problems.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D will not be cheap despite having 8 cores and 16 threads. Adding SRAM as V-Cache seems to trigger the price of the processor to Ryzen 9 5950X levels, that is, around 700 euros or even 750 euros on average if you want to be more precise.

Gaming performance will be much better than Ryzen 9 and it seems that AMD will hide behind it along with the V-Cache comment to justify it. For this reason and in principle, we will wait to see the reception of this new Ryzen 7 to discern if Ryzen 9 is launched with this new SRAM. Therefore, if Intel is definitely ahead of AMD with this new processor, it could be the case that the price of the i9-12900KS under the Alder Lake architecture is not so frowned upon after all, curious to say the least.
