Just like other Apple products, AirPods benefit from the functionality Locate which makes it possible to find the headphones in the event that they have been lost in nature. If the intention is good, the drift is of course never far away. Spying cases thanks to AirPods are legion, which also makes it very difficult to resell the headphones. However, it happens that the functionality is useful in very specific contexts.

When Russian troops arrived in Hostomel, a Ukrainian town 27 kilometers from kyiv, Vitaliy Semenets did not have time to put his valuables in a safe place. Quickly, his house is looted by the soldiers. Among the losses, he notices that her AirPods were stolen by the enemy. Then, an idea occurs to him. While he’ll probably never get his hands on his headphones again, he can use them to track the position of the Russian army.

It’s probably only a matter of time before Russia becomes aware of the phenomenon — if it isn’t already. However, such information may turn out to be crucial for the Ukrainian government, as well as for the population which would be on the way of the adversary. At the start of the conflict, Russian soldiers had already unwittingly revealed their position by going to Tinder.
