This will be the release date of the DDR6 RAM memory for PC

The launch of the new Intel processors has brought, as we well know, DDR5 RAM to the market and this has been the most important change in the industry in years. But although it is revolutionary in many respects, the shortage has been made with it and prices have risen a lot, so today’s announcement is still paradoxical, since without DDR5 in stores Samsung already sets a release date for DDR6.

It is not that it is the first news of this new type of memory that we make, but it is news that the largest RAM manufacturer in the market places the launch on the calendar, where it has also talked about the possible improvements that will come with it. When will the presentation and staging of the successor to DDR5 RAM take place?

Samsung DDR6: release date in 2029

Future RAM DDR6 Samsung

We are going to enter 2022 and as such there will be only 7 years left where DDR5 will have all the leading role in personal computers and servers. A few years that, although they will have to their credit a series of improvements in terms of speed, latencies and voltages, almost certainly will not be able to compete with what Samsung will launch in that year 2029, or at least we are very far from it today.

DDR4 has made a jump from 2133 MHz to the current 5333 MHz as the top of the range, while DDR5 starts at 4800 MHz and is more than likely to reach the 10,000 MHz (8400 MHz according to some rumors) at the end of its useful life. These are impressive figures and they highlight how the industry is improving its modules for a single standard, that although these TOP modules are restricted to professional overclockers due to the limitations of the IMC, its voltage and temperature (now also the PMIC and the modules overall), the reality for DDR6 points higher.

Up to 17 GHz and more than 100 GB / s per channel

The figures that Samsung has given are spectacular with nothing less than a starting speed of 12.8 GHz or 12,800 MHz, which will exceed the supposed limit that manufacturers have in view for DDR5 and by a lot. And it is that Samsung affirms that with this configuration the 100 GB / s per memory channel on a single module, which in dual channel mainstream PC configurations would correspond to 200 GB / s, that at least accepted for the standard.

Let’s remember to put in perspective that in DDR4-32o0 it is 25.6 GB / s and in DDR5-6400 it is double, 51.2 GB / s, so DDR6 would double the bandwidth again
