This X-men character was going to have a movie but it was cancelled, why?

Production company Fox bought the rights to the X-Men from Marvel when Marvel was selling whatever it was to avoid bankruptcy in the early ’90s. That led to several movies set in the universe of the most famous mutants in comics, as well as derivative projects of all kinds.

one of those projects never saw the light of day, despite the fact that, for quite some time, it was the talk of the town. She had to do with a hero much appreciated by the fans and it seemed that the film was going to be a project born of passion and not just money.

However, it stayed in the drawer and we will tell you why.

Gambit, the “cursed” movie of the X-Men universe

The superhero Gambit

The oldest of the place remember that, every two times three, news appeared about the film project of Gambitwhich was to be starred by the actor channing tatum.

In fact, not only did he star in it, but helped develop it for 4 years with Reid Carolinwith whom Tatum also worked on Magic Mike.

In a similar way to the project dead pool Headlined by Ryan Reynolds, and born out of the actor’s fondness for Marvel’s loudmouth mercenary, the film seemed to be looking good. Tatum was involved and we probably would have seen something that was not only trying to get money but also do justice to a much-loved character in the X-Men comics.

Gambit is a powerful mutant who can mentally create, control, and manipulate kinetic energy. Known for charging playing cards and other objects with this type of movement energy, he uses them as projectiles.

However, in the end the project was shelved because Disney bought Fox in its devouring desire. Probably, he was not part of their medium-term plans and he was shelved.

Channing Tatum is still smart about canceling the movie

Actor Channing Tatum

The funny thing is that Tatum is still hurt because Disney, who still don’t know what he will do with all the X-Men and how he will integrate it into his MCU, was not interested.

Recently, in an interview with Variety stated:

«Once Gambit left, I was very traumatized. I turned off my Marvel machine and haven’t been able to watch any of the movies. I loved that character. He was too sad. It was like losing a friend because he was so willing to play it».

The truth is that all the news was hearsay and the project never got past the planning stage. And it’s a shame, because probably would have been like another dead pool, something made by those who know and love the superhero. That dead pool It is not the wonder that some say, but compared to the rest of the films of the style, it wins a lot.

A shame, but let’s also not rule out that Disney will see that there is money when it has exhausted everything else from Marvel. He will then tell an 80-year-old Tatum to go train the card throwing.
