AMD launched the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX last March, although that movement was completely limited to the OEM market, which means that to acquire those new processors it was necessary buy a complete set from a particular manufacturersomething that in the end significantly reduced the configuration options.
Three months have passed since its launch, and finally these CPUs are no longer exclusive to the OEM market, although we have two key dates that mark a gradual landing in the SYI sector (system integrators) and in the DIY market (do it yourself). The launch of the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX in the first will take place in July of this year, and the DIY market will arrive at the end of this year.
This means that, in order to build a workstation based on the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX using a completely custom configuration by us, we will have to wait until the end of this year. AMD has not given specific dates, but everything seems to indicate that we will go to fourth quarter of 2022.
The new high-performance processors from AMD are emerging as an excellent alternative for those professionals who need not only a high-performance single-thread CPU, but also a solution that is capable of offering a high degree of parallelization. Compared to the previous generation, they mark an important leap in both raw power and efficiency, thanks to the use of the zen 3 architectureand are available in configurations with up to 64 cores and 128 threads totaling up to 256 MB of L3 cache.
This new generation of HEDT processors has up to 128 PCIe Gen4 lanes, comes with enhanced security and management features, supports 8-channel memory configurations and are compatible with motherboards using the WRX80 chipset, which means we can directly upgrade to them without having to change the motherboard. A BIOS update will be enough to be able to use the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX.
The Threadripper PRO 5000 WX will be available in three versions:
- Threadripper PRO 5995 WX: With 64 cores and 128 threads at 2.7 GHz-4.5 GHz. TDP of 280 watts.
- Threadripper PRO 5975 WX: with 32 cores and 64 threads at 3.6 GHz-4.5 GHz. TDP of 280 watts.
- Threadripper PRO 5965 WX: with 24 cores and 48 threads at 3.8 GHz-4.5 GHz. TDP of 280 watts.
