Three out of four Spaniards buy with their mobile phones, the highest percentage in Europe

E-commerce has become popular in recent years as mode of purchase that does not stop gaining followers. More and more, consumers value being able to buy from anywhere and at any time, regardless of the hours that stores offer.

This is demonstrated by the latest survey carried out by the price comparator idealo.es, carried out among more than 2,000 participants in our country, which reveals that 75% of Spaniards admit to making their purchases through their mobile phone, positioning Spain as the leading European country in this matter, ahead of Italy (72%), the United Kingdom (62%) and Austria (56%). In addition, the majority of those surveyed use an Android terminal to purchase products.

In addition, this analysis also indicates that Sunday between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. is the time chosen by Spaniards to buy online. At the European level, Sunday remains the preferred day for him online shopping, except for the Austrians and the Germans, who prefer Tuesday and Monday, respectively. In addition, the English, French and Italians coincide in opting for 8:00 p.m. to make purchases online, while the Austrians prefer 6:00 p.m. and the Germans 7:00 p.m.

Although some buyers still prefer to go to stores in person, a large part opts for the online option as the most common in their day to day. In fact, according to idealo’s analysis, 66% of consumers make at least one online purchase per month, while 23% purchase products online every week. This percentage rises to 28% in the case of Spaniards between 35 and 44 years old, the age group that makes the most online purchases.

Another of the study’s conclusions explains how the Silver Economy becomes increasingly more faithful to electronic commerce, and according to the history of idealo, the segment of the population between 55 and 64 years is the one that shows the greatest increase in terms of the frequency of weekly online purchases, going from 11% in 2021 to 18% at the end of 2022. Likewise, one in four women buys frequently through the Internet, compared to 21% of men.

By sectors, fashion continues to be the one that attracts the most attention from consumers. Many stores have begun to offer products exclusively online, which cannot be found in the physical establishment, which motivates consumers to use this channel. Regarding the categories that register the most activity in online commerce, the idealo analysis presents a top 3 led by clothing and footwear, with 44% and 40%, respectively, leaving third place for electronic items ( 38%).
