TikTok is singled out by Arcom for its lack of transparency towards fake news

Arcom has just published an annual report entitled “Fight against the manipulation of information on online platforms (2022 report)”. The law promulgated by the French government on December 20, 2018 aims to fight against the manipulation of information in the digital age and to stem the spread of false information. It obliges companies to put measures in place. Each year, Arcom therefore publishes a report on the means implemented by online platform operators to eradicate fake news. Despite generally satisfactory cooperation with platforms, the audiovisual policeman singles out three services that are conspicuous by their lack of transparency: Google, Yahoo, but above all TikTok. According to Arcom, the ByteDance social network has “taken an incredible place at lightning speed”. It touches at least 9 million visitors per day and spreads so much fake news that its response to Arcom is grossly insufficient.

According to a member of Arcom, ” the status quo is not possible for TikTok “. This service will have to carry out “an accelerated catch-up to meet its obligations”. The Chinese company is causing concern among European and US lawmakers. TikTok sends user data to China. Beijing could therefore use this information to track you. If it wants to ensure its future in France and Europe, the platform has every interest in correcting the situation. Its fate in the United States already seems sealed, according to a member of the US telecoms regulatory authority, TikTok will be banned there, it is only a matter of time.
