Tim Cook awarded

Tim Cook paid a visit to Alabama this weekend to attend the college football game between his alma mater, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama. While in town, Cook also received the “Award to the Captains of Industry of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers” from Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.

This award is the most distinguished award from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University. That Tim Cook would meet him, it was announced as early as last spring. However, it was not until this past weekend that they delivered it to him taking advantage of the game between Auburn vs Alabama.

Welcome back Tim Cook, industrial engineer from 82 and CEO of Apple. We are honored to present Mr. Cook with the Industry Captains Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). The institute’s highest honor bestowed solely on business, industry, and government leaders. Cook was nominated for the award by Alice Smith, IISE Fellow and Joe W. Forehand / Accenture Distinguished Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Everything went perfectly for one of the most powerful people on the planet. Well, not all. Because he had to go without being able to see Auburn’s victory against Alabama. That which tried in the speech he gave:

There is no better memory or longer memory when you do something that you are not supposed to do. We are not supposed to win tomorrow, but we can win tomorrow. The main enemy of all of life’s biggest challenges is the person looking at you in the mirror, and you have to acknowledge that. And a kind of little voice in your head that tells you that you are doing 100% when you are doing 90, and you have to eradicate it somehow.
