When we visit a web page, we do so to search for information in text format, a format that allows us to quickly see if the information we are looking for is found. The videos are very good in certain cases, but it is not the best source of information despite the fact that many media insist on shoehorning their videos and thus increase the visit counter automatically, since these are reproduced automatically without our permission, causing let’s lose concentration or a nuisance to our environment if we are in a library, in a class or in an office and we have not lowered the volume.
Fortunately, for this type of problem, there is a solution in the form of an extension, extensions that allow us to disable autoplay videos, a feature that was available in Chrome several versions ago on an experimental basis but has disappeared without a trace. In addition, we are also going to prevent our data rate from vanishing quickly if we share our mobile data to connect to the internet.
The extensions that allow us to stop the automatic playback of videos not only work in Chrome, but we can use them in any other Chromium-based browser such as Edge, Brave, Opera and others but not in Firefox. These extensions can be a problem when making video calls as they block the automatic playback of any video, so it is recommended to disable it first or create an exception within the extension to prevent it from affecting them.
Disable HTML5 Autoplay
Thanks to this extension, we can block the automatic reproduction of any video embedded in a web page in a very simple way. In addition, it allows us to create a list of websites where the extension will have no effect, an interesting option if we want some websites to be able to play the content automatically since they do so silently, so they do not affect our concentration. Natively, the application blocks content, so if we want to create a White list allowing that website, we must click on the extension and uncheck the boxes.
AutoplayStopper
Like the previous extension, AutoplayStopper is another of the options that we have at our disposal to deactivate the automatic reproduction of videos whose origin is found in both YouTube and DailyMotion. It also allows us to create a white list of websites that can play video automatically. Also, it forces the web to play the video on HTML5 formatformat that can be blocked using extensions.
Video Autoplay Blocker
Another interesting extension available in the Chrome Web Store and with which we can block the automatic playback of videos is Video Autoplay Blocker. The videos embedded in the web, after installing this extension, will show a red button that will allow us to play the video. Natively, autoplay of videos that are available on YouTube and Vimeo, but we can disable it by extracting it from the white list.
