Top of the best video games of 2022, the 10 titles that should not be missed this year

2022 is coming to an end and it’s time to take stock! What are the titles released this year that have marked the small world of video games? In this file, we have made a selection of ten unmissable games, those that have shaken up all the codes or those that have gone a little unnoticed but are worth the detour. Follow the leader !

Games 2022

Like every end of the year, it’s time to take stock and in this file, we are going to focus on the video games that have marked 2022. While the Game Awards will reward the best titles of the last twelve months, at Phonandroid we have also decided to highlight our favorite games of this year in this folder: the PhonAwards.

We classify them from “worse” to best, we get wet and our choices will necessarily encourage debate! But whether we’re talking about blockbusters that devastated everything in their path or more confidential titles, they are all interesting in their own way and deserve a look.

Of course, it’s about the editorial selection, it is therefore necessarily subjective, even if we have tried to diversify the choices. Feel free to give your favorite games of the year in the comments!

Splatoon 3 (Switch)

Splatoon 3 remains in the nails established by the two previous components, while sublimating them. The principle is the same: with your paint gun, you have to cover the arena in order to gain the upper hand over the opposing team. Focused on the multiplayer, the game also offers a single-player campaign to have fun in your corner. Rich, fun, nervous and very rewarding, Splatoon 3 is one of the best Switch games in 2022. We like the immediate fun and the colorful universe.

A Plague Tale Requiem (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch)

Amicia and Hugo are making a comeback! Direct sequel to A Plague Tale Innocence, Requiem is an adventure game that plunges us into a 14th century France ravaged by the Black Death. The Bordeaux studio Asobo gives us a story that is still as captivating as well as a striking artistic direction. At the controls of the young Amicia, you will have to evolve through levels filled with enemy soldiers, but especially rats just waiting to devour you. A must for those who like games with a great story. In any case, it was one of the editor’s favorites.

World of Warcraft Dragonflight (PC)

World of Warcraft is no longer the juggernaut it was in its heyday, but it remains an MMORPG giant. The new expansion, Dragonflight, attempts to reconnect with fans after a few rocky years. This time, Blizzard has played it safe, returning to pure and hard heroic fantasy… and it works! On the menu of novelties, a new continent to explore (the dragon islands), a redesigned talent tree, enjoyable dragon flying and above all a new race: the Dracthyrs. Dragonflight is the expansion World of Warcraft needed to get back on a sound footing. A real tour de force as the formula is mastered from start to finish. The august MMO is still alive and intends to make it known. We’ve spent far too many hours there since release…

The Last of Us Part I (PS5)

It might not have been the most essential remake to release, but once launched, the magic works again. Naughty Dog offers us a new vision of its cult title through this PS5 opus. No change in the gameplay since here, it is the coating that has been taken from scratch. A great way to (re)live the adventures of Ellie and Joel. As a reminder, TLOU takes us on a journey to an America ravaged by a zombie apocalypse. This is an action/adventure game that emphasizes stealth. Be careful, some scenes are very violent. We went back to it with relish.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

We expected more from the Call of Duty license, as much to say that we were delighted to see this Modern Warfare 2 taking a lot of risks. If the formula remains the same, the Infinity Ward teams have been clever enough to offer us a surprising and refreshing single player mode that gives hope to the franchise. As for the multiplayer mode, it is also very neat, reminding us of the greatest hours of the original Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Let’s not forget Warzone 2.0, the free to play battle royale mode which is also available. We are the first surprised, but this game has really marked our year.

Horizon Forbidden West (PS4, PS5)

Sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Forbidden West wants to be bigger, more beautiful, stronger than its predecessor. We follow Aloy on a journey west to the Pacific coast. It’s adventure with a capital A and a safe bet for this year 2022. It’s a third-person action/adventure game in which the player must explore a huge open world. The story takes place centuries in the future and makes us evolve in a universe where nature has regained its rights… but also robots. It may not be the game that will mark the media, but it enjoys an exceptional mastery which makes it very pleasant to do.

Return to Monkey Island (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch)

It was unexpected, but the Monkey Island saga has finally made a comeback on our consoles and PC. Ron Gilbert, the creator of the first two installments, has taken over the reins to offer us a humorous and touching adventure, which follows 1991’s Monkey Island 2. A successful comeback which is primarily aimed at fans. Monkey Island is what we call a point and click, a game where you have to solve puzzles to advance in the story. He relies on his deep characters and his many jokes. Hands down the best written game of the year.

Stray (PS4, PS5, PC)

Stray is a French game that takes us to a dystopian city populated by robots. His particuliarity ? Make us play a cat, which is not common in the video game. At the controls of our cat, we explore the nooks and crannies of a city full of mysteries to unlock its secrets. Between two missions, it is possible to purr in the legs of the robots, to play ball or even to walk on keyboards… a cat’s life, in short. Stray manages to go beyond its basic premise to offer us a very gripping adventure that does not drag out in length. One of the surprises of this year. We couldn’t resist this little ball of hair. Meow!

God of War Ragnarok (PS4, PS5)

Ragnarök is the new spearhead of the AAA blockbuster. It takes everything that made the success of its predecessor, but better. Bigger, longer, more violent, stronger, it takes the player on a thrilling adventure where storytelling and action are perfectly balanced. A must have for Kratos fans. One of the games of the year, undoubtedly, which will mark the spirits for a long time. We would have designated him as our GOTY, but a certain Elden Ring has come to spoil the party…

Elden Ring (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

If you’re surprised to find Elden Ring at the top of this ranking, you haven’t played it. From Software’s latest is not only a great game, it’s a title that brilliantly revisits all the codes of the open world. Generous, captivating, captivating, it plunges us into an apocalyptic universe as vast as it is fascinating. A true culmination of the studio’s formula, it caused an earthquake in the industry as it managed to shake up the certainties of players, despite its high difficulty. A title that is already considered an industry milestone that we have spent far, far too many hours on with the bitter feeling of having only seen the surface. Bright.
