A river uprooted, gain of fishermen. That’s the motto that should be displayed on a wall at the chipmaker’s headquarters. TSMC. With the entire river churning globally from a shortage of chips, some big fishermen, like TSMC, are turning to gold.
Said manufacturer of processors as important as Apple A and M series, just released some sales figures for last year, and the truth is that the numbers reflect some spectacular profits. I suppose Apple executives have gotten a good batch for Christmas from Taiwan….
The well-known processor manufacturer TSMC has published some accounting figures for the year 2020 and the truth is that they are spectacular, taking into account the crisis that we are suffering throughout the planet due to the lack of supply of chips and processors.
The company has reported that it has had revenue growth of the 24.1% in 2021 compared to the previous year. And keep in mind that a quarter of said revenue was generated by Apple. In the short term, it is certainly great news, but dangerous in the medium and long term. 25% of TSMC’s turnover is taken by a single customer: Apple.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., apart from reporting such income, has also published that it has registered an increase in the 16.4% in earnings for the fourth quarter of last year. With these numbers, the company has raised its revenue growth forecasts which have now placed them between 15 and 20 percent.
TSMC has already started trials to start mass producing new 3nm processors, which Apple is waiting like May water for its iPhones, iPads and Macs of 2023. Without a doubt, the good work that TSMC is doing during these years for Apple, is now paying off.
