Twitter removes Ticketed Spaces

The informative focus in relation to Twitter today is, without a doubt, that of Elon Musk’s first steps at the helm of the company. And this is totally understandable, of course, because it seems that we have already reached, or almost, the point and end of a soap opera that has lasted months, and that began with good words and has been about to end in court. It was already known, and it has been confirmed that Musk’s first relevant decision has been to fire the company’s main managers, including CEO Parag Agrawal, with whom he has had a run-in on the social network during these months.

However, and although today everyone talks about it (I repeat, with every reason in the world), today has also been the day chosen by the social network to take a somewhat surprising measure, at least in the first instance. One of the most interesting announcements of last year was that of the Spaces, the first and one of the most effective replicas to Clubhouse, when this still seemed to pose a great threat to social networks. The Ticketed Spaces were announced shortly, that is, the payment spaces, which began to work just a month later.

Although its use is not massive, the Spaces formula seems to have worked well since then, to the point that, based on its implementation and the learning acquired, Twitter announced a couple of months ago its intention to take the step to enter the podcast market, among which the deferred recordings of the Spaces can find a very good accommodation. This second youth of the podcast has valued the audio format, and the networks know it.

However, the experience with payment spaces should not have been so positive and thus, as we can read in Yahoo! Finance, Twitter has decided to remove Ticketed Spaces. At the moment, the social network affirms that it is a pause, which it describes as indefinite. However, and even more so considering that its deployment was proving to be quite slow (it is unknown how many accounts could create these spaces, but it seems that the number of them was quite scarce), and that the profit margin obtained by the social network for the same, they predict a rather dark future.

With this change we should not fear, however, that the Spaces are in danger. Quite the contrary, according to the social network, leaving aside the payment spaces will allow them to focus on improving the “Spaces core experience«, which invites us to think that we can expect, if not in the short term then in the medium term, improvements in this function. However, and returning to the news of the day, and since this decision seems to have already been made in advance, we will have to wait until we see if Musk, once in command of Twitter, decides to reverse it.
