Ubisoft blames players for the poor reception of its NFTs

A few months ago we first heard the news of the arrival of Ubisoft Quartz, the developer’s future platform to implement NFTs in its games. However, just as we saw with STALKER 2, the community was quick to show his strong rejection.

A rejection that, as explained by Ubisoft executives in an interview for the Finder website, is unjustified, even going so far as to defend their proposal “underestimating” the players claiming that their negative reaction is simply because they “don’t understand” NFTs.

I think the players they don’t understand what a digital aftermarket can bring them”, said Nicolas Pouard, vice president of Ubisoft Strategic Innovations Lab. “For now, due to the current situation and context of NFTs, players really believe that firstly it is destroying the planet and secondly it is just a tool for speculation. But what we [en Ubisoft] we’re seeing first is the endgame. The final game it’s about giving players the opportunity to resell their items once they are done with them or have finished playing the game itself”.

It is really beneficial for them”, continued Pouard, “But they don’t get it for now. Also, this is part of a paradigm shift in gaming. Going from one economic system to another is not easy to manage. There are many habits that you must go against and much of your ingrained mindset that you have to change. It takes time. We know

However, players are not the only ones who do not share this vision of the future of Ubisoft Quartz, as Kotaku showed, sharing the negative reaction of some employees of the company itself after the official announcement in December.

So, for the time being, Ubisoft sticks with its original plans, and will release these Digits in an exclusive beta phase for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Ubisoft Connect for Windows PC, with three limited editions made up of a set amount of in-game cosmetic items ranging from vehicles to weapons to pieces of gear.

Although the company has already advanced that its plans will go much further targeting an entire secondary market.
