Ubisoft explains its plans regarding Stadia

Just yesterday we told you that, by surprise, Ubisoft was starting to give Stadia users free copies of the games they had purchased through Google’s cloud gaming service. This process was carried out to the surprise of the users, since they had not received any communication from Ubisoft, which had not published any information in this regard either. Games suddenly appeared on Ubisoft+.

Fortunately, the gala developer has finally made public its policy in this regard and, except for a couple of exceptions, the truth is that its position is positively remarkable, because instead of looking the other way (as more than one distributor has done), it is actively working so that users who have who have been affected by the closure of Stadia can, despite this, continue to enjoy the titles purchased from the Google service.

And it is that its approach is as simple as it is surprising: users will receive a refund from Stadia and the game in Ubisoft +, all this at no cost. To do this, they will simply have to connect their Stadia and Ubisoft accounts from the Google service (something that is recommended to be done as soon as possible, and of course always before January 18, the date the service is closed). In this way, Ubisoft will already have the necessary information to add the games to the users’ Ubisoft+ account.

Ubisoft explains its plans regarding Stadia

Ubisoft alerts, yes, that the funds that users have in the games will not be transferred, so they recommend that they use said funds in purchases within the games, since the digital assets will be transferred, as well as the saved games. And in this regard, the company also clarifies that this option will be available in all cross-platform games that support cross-save between them, but not in those that do not.

There are, as I said, some exceptions to this policy, and that is that according to what we can read in the article published by Ubisoft, there are several games whose digital assets will not be transferred from Stadia to Ubisoft+, they are the following:

  • Family Feud
  • Just Dance 2020
  • Just Dance 2021
  • Just Dance 2022
  • Trivial Pursuit Live! 2

And as for the versions of the games, the developer reports that users will get the same ones that they had purchased in Stadia or, if not possible, premium versions of the titles.

Undoubtedly, the developer has made, at the same time, a very intelligent and very beneficial move for users. The second point needs no explanation, and as for the first, it allows them to keep those players active, and also particularly satisfied with the company, because despite the closure of the service, they will be able to continue enjoying the games they bought, with the extra that, in addition, having received the refund, they will have them 100% legal and 100% free.
