Ukraine creates pirate army to fight back against Russia

Ukraine now relies on pirates to stand up to the Russian invasion. After being the victim of a massive cyberattack on its territory, the state called on hackers to band together to deal with the threat. Hundreds of applications have already been sent.

137 Ukrainians have died since yesterday morning, announced Volodymyr Zelensky, President of the country. This Thursday, February 24, Russia invaded its neighbor, triggering at the same time a war both on land and virtual. Indeed, at the same time as the Russian army entered its territory, Ukraine suffered a massive cyberattack. A wiper has infected hundreds of PCs to erase all stored data. The objective: to destabilize public institutions and undermine the morale of the population.

But the Ukrainian government does not intend to let this happen. In the aftermath of the cyberattack, Yegor Aushev, co-founder of a cybersecurity company in Kiev, posted this message on a hacker forum! “Ukrainian cyber community!” It is time to get involved in the cyber defense of our country”before asking hackers to regroup to face the invader. At this point, the government has already received hundreds of applications.

Ukraine calls on pirates to join the fight

It is now a question of checking them one by one to make sure that they are not hiding a Russian spy. Once their application has been validated, the pirates will be in charge ofa protection of vital infrastructure, such as water supply systems or power plants. They will also have the role ofspy on russia hoping to get their hands on key information.

Ukraine will also be able to count on support from Anonymous, which has already announced its involvement in the conflict against Russia. The first DDOS attacks have already been carried out against government and media sites in the country. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are massively falling back on cryptocurrencies in order to circumvent the withdrawal limitations imposed by the authorities.
