UPS opens a 6,500 square meter facility in Madrid

UPS Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) has announced the opening of a new facility in Madrid. The new center has 6,500 square meters and will be the main distribution point for the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, from there it will connect the region’s growing technology and healthcare industries, as well as the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries to UPS’s intelligent global logistics network, which serves customers in more than 220 countries and territories.

Equipped with 7,500 positions for pallets and 25,000 points for racks, the facility offers end-to-end visibility for time-sensitive, high-value critical shipments, currently processing some 81,000 units per quarter. It also has LEED Gold certification and solar panels for green energy generation.

“We are focused on creating both efficient trade routes to foster the growth of our customers and useful technologies for real-time online inventory visibility and critical order management with 24-hour customer service”it states Gonzalo Vidal, Contract Logistics Manager at UPS SCS for Spain, Italy and Portugal. “Our goal is to ensure supply chain resiliency for our customers as their businesses navigate market demands, challenges, fluctuations, and opportunities.”

These facilities in Madrid represent the fourth UPS SCS opening in 2022, the year in which a new state-of-the-art 32,000-square-meter building was also inaugurated in roermond (Netherlands). Selected for its central location and excellent road, sea, rail and air connections, these facilities will also house the first UPS SCS Innovation Center in Europe.
