Waisense, simple technology that saves up to 25 liters of water

The startup from Malaga, Métrica6, has launched Waisense, a system that allows us to easily save all the water that we waste by opening the hot water tap and waiting for it to come out at the right temperature. “According to the UN, in 2050 there will only be water available for 60% of the population. We have all wondered at some point if there would be a solution to avoid throwing away so many liters of water until it gets hot every time we shower. We thought about it and put the solution“, as highlighted Eduardo Duenascreator of Waisense.

The main objective of this innovative technology is to help improve the use of the most important natural resource. The solution allows the water come out to the desired temperature instantly, which represents a saving of between 6 and 25 liters, each time we use the hot water tap. Waisense calculates that these savings can add up to 52% less on the annual bill of home consumption.

On the other hand, Waisense not only reduces water consumption, but also contributes to reduce Co2 emissions and the impact on the carbon footprint daily by improving energy efficiency in the home. The energy it needs for its operation is minimal. The use of Waisense would mean an equivalent saving at 2kWh per person per month.

According to the report “Sustainability in Housing Demand in Spain”, more than half of Spaniards are willing to pay more for sustainable housing. Water automation focuses on the efficient use of this common good, and its application is not limited to homes, but establishments can also benefit from these technologies.

Development supported by the Minerva program

This solution, supported by the Minerva program of the Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities and Vodafone, is easy to implement and use. It consists of three modules that are installed in the plumbing system of the house without the need for additional works and pipes.

Passing your hand over the module as a switch, the recirculation system is started. As long as the activator light is blue, it means that hot water is coming from the heater to the point of consumption. When the light turns red, it means that the water is already hot and we can open the tap without wasting a single drop.

Waisense, already marketed under the name NESS Technology, will launch an app soon with which it will digitize the use of the system. With the app, the user will be able to see the consumption of hot water in the home in real time, receive advice to be more sustainable or program usage routines.
