Watch out, infection! Google releases an “easter mushroom” from ‘The Last of Us’

HBO is doing well with the play The Last of Us. Very well, to tell the truth, and it is that despite the fact that due to the adaptation that it is, a good reception was expected, with just a couple of chapters in the air, it has already become the first sensation of the year as far as content is concerned. And that is not achieved only with good base material.

No sir. As you well know on Netflix or on Amazon, the best base can fail if the adaptation is not well managed and either by critics or the public, read by a work of recognized quality or by the success of the proposal, since they do not always coincide both factors, failure is often more likely than success. At least that full success, the one that combine a good review with the success of the product.

There are plenty of examples of the latter, but to name three recent ones, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power it was, by force, a supposed ratings success, while generating mixed reviews wherever you put your eyes or ears; a Sandman, without being unanimous, it was more accompanied by criticism, the professional one, at least, although doubts about its cancellation -and, therefore, about its success- were floating around for a long time; and does it ring a bell Halo?

It is true that it did not come out of these parts, but it comes from a first line game and in that aspect, the Halo would be a more comparable adaptation with The Last of Us. And it has not been more well received, although in my opinion it does not go beyond the level of the typical Syfy space pirate series: the production level is good, the series is entertaining… but it pales in comparison to what it is or was to play a Halo of the time.

The Last Of Us

Having great source material doesn’t guarantee you anything, and yet, almost everyone seems to be delighted with the adaptation of The Last of Us, although it is worth repeating that only a couple of chapters have been issued. But it’s liking both those who played the game and those who haven’t. I confess that I had my doubts, but, without fuss, I’m also liking it and I find the casting, from Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey to Anna Torv, excellent.

Now comes the joke, yes. It turns out that Google has dedicated, not an Easter egg, but an easter mushrooma The Last of Us, whose story revolves, as you will already know, around an infection by a terrible fungus that, beware, is real, it just doesn’t affect humans. But it is very, very bad and, following what is proposed by the fiction -although the modus operandi varies from the game to the series- highly infectious.

Are you interested to see how infectious the fungus in question is? Search The Last of Us on Google, or go here and look at the little mushroom at the bottom of the screen. And give it And give it again. One more time… It’s nonsense, yes; but that Google bothers to program such a nonsense demonstrates the impact that the series is having, when it has barely begun its journey. Now to see how it ends.
